It has been our pleasure to work with many schools and teachers over the years. Here are some of our highlights!

Links into Languages
Children at Yew Tree Primary, Building Sentences.

One of our more challenging briefs as part of the Solihull Primary Modern Language Team was to design the “Literacy led modern language learning” for Links into Languages. As project leader Suzanne was very much the “nuts and bolts” person behind the scenes supporting teachers in schools, drawing together planning, as well as designing, illustrating and producing the resources.

St Alphege Junior School

One of many story openings in French by a Year 4 pupil, using the imperfect past telling of a dinosaur called Henri, who was enamoured of a mermaid but had poor hygiene!

Another challenging brief for Sally and Suzanne, again whilst still working for the local authority was to design another literacy and modern language unit which would support “Closing the gap” in writing in literacy. Suzanne was forever indebted to Sally for coming up with the idea to carefully ring fence the language being taught so as to enable children to write, albeit within a limited sphere of language, at a more advanced level.

Coughton Primary School, Warwickshire

A thank you from Adam Walsh, Head Teacher at Coughton Primary School, after a staff training session with Suzanne and Sally.

“A big thank you for today. I went round all the teachers after you left and they thought the resources and power points were great and very useful”.

Sandra's Story: Featherstone Primary Academy

As a non teaching member of staff, I was surprised when asked to cover French Lessons in Year 4. I reluctantly agreed as I had never taught French and my last French lesson was in High School over 30 years ago. I was aware of the French programme the whole school were following from Five Plus Solutions and was pleasantly surprised how simple it was to follow. There was no planning required as it was all done for you in topic sessions. The termly training provided by Suzanne from Five Plus Solutions, was clear and taught me the basics of the French language in order to deliver the planned lessons. The training sessions also clarify and highlight the differences in English and French grammar. It has given me a new found confidence in helping children learn the basics of the French language in a fun way. The power points and printable resources (word mats) have been invaluable and are used during every lesson. Questions, phrases and key vocabulary can be displayed in the classroom. Children enjoy the lessons, albeit a varying range of understanding, however they are all willing to have a go! The topics are meaningful and relate to 'real life'. Even if children can't remember whole sentences, they have definitely become more fluent at high frequency words. Overall, I have really enjoyed the opportunity to work with Five Plus Solutions and as a non teacher appreciated the support and structure of the programme. Without such structure, I believe I would have struggled and I feel that I have actually gained knowledge of French and am much more confident in my delivery. If I can do it, anyone can!
